Solving a Five-Level Puzzle

When my clients bought this house, I was commissioned to advise on how it could be adapted to meet their needs — including a staircase that would connect five distinct levels created by the extensive remodelling and extension work.

Design and Detail

The result is a bespoke staircase in glass, stainless steel and oak, with a wall-recessed handrail incorporating LED lighting. Despite the complexity of what it's achieving, the staircase reads as light and almost weightless — a floating, cantilevered structure that gives the impression of defying gravity.

How the client thought it went…
