Cropwell Bishop

The owners of this beautiful Victorian house wanted to reconfigure their internal kitchen space and create a modern, contemporary extension for the family to enjoy.

About the project

Connecting House and Garden

The key design requirement was to connect the house with its enclosed garden as lightly and transparently as possible. Working with early input from a structural engineer, we designed a glass-walled extension with only one small section of wall, just enough to hang the TV on.

Comfort Through the Seasons

An extended roof overhang sits above the south-facing glass patio door elevation, providing solar shading on hot summer days. The same metal-trimmed roof extends over the existing rear door to form a porch area, tying the extension back to the original house. Low-energy downlighters in the roof overhang, on three sides of the extension, mean the building sparkles even on our long winter evenings.

Architecture done right.

This is what's possible when design and attention to detail come together.
