About the project
Transforming a 1970s Classic into a Contemporary Home
Our clients approached us with a clear vision: to transform their dated 1970s property into a modern home with genuine curb appeal located in Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire.
The primary challenge was the fragmented layout, which lacked a cohesive connection between the upper floor and the lower-level garage and gym.
By repositioning the staircase, we established a seamless link between the upper and lower levels, unifying the home’s circulation. We expanded the master bedroom suite into a new front gable extension, partially mirroring this at the entrance to create a welcoming, canopied approach.
To elevate the living experience, we replaced the rear hipped roof with a striking gable, allowing for a vaulted ceiling that brings dramatic volume to the main living areas.
The landscaping was thoughtfully redesigned to create a gentle, inviting progression from the drive to the main entrance.
Finally, the use of a sophisticated palette of dark grey brick and black timber cladding has completely transformed the home’s aesthetic, realizing the modern dream our clients envisioned.
This is due to start on site in late 2026.

A message from the client
We’ve had a really positive experience working with our architect John.
He has been patient throughout the process, really listened to our needs and ideas, and translated them into a house design that we can genuinely see ourselves enjoying for many years to come.
He took the time to understand how we live day to day, how we want to use the space as a family, and balanced this carefully with our budget and lifestyle. His ability to combine practicality with thoughtful design has made the whole process feel exciting and achievable.
We’ve felt listened to, supported, and guided throughout, and we’re incredibly grateful for his expertise, creativity, and attention to detail.
